Advanced Debriefing Course
Debriefing is a central component of simulation‑based education, yet it is often the aspect practitioners find most challenging. This one‑day course is designed to strengthen your confidence and capability in leading debriefs by introducing you to a range of contemporary debriefing models and helping you understand how and when to use them effectively.
Throughout the day, we will explore the theoretical foundations that underpin high‑quality debriefing and compare several established approaches currently used in practice. You will have the opportunity to review and apply different feedback styles, examine strategies for managing challenging behaviours during debriefs, and learn how to use the DASH tool to support peer review and reflective improvement.
A series of pre‑scripted scenarios will provide structured opportunities to conduct debriefs in more complex or demanding situations, supported by guidance and feedback from experienced faculty.
Highlights/Objectives:
- Develop a clear understanding of the principles behind effective debriefing
- Compare and contrast contemporary debriefing models and their practical application
- Explore a range of feedback approaches and identify how to select an appropriate style for the context
- Learn and apply strategies for recognising and managing challenging behaviours during debriefs
- Discuss the DASH tool to support structured peer review
- Apply learning through facilitated practice using pre‑scripted scenarios
