Course Details

Course description:

The Management of Meningococcal Disease study day has been developed by the BMSC team and is now being delivered nationally. The day involves a lecture reviewing the most recent evidence of the management of meningococcal disease and 3 fully immersive simulated scenarios that highlight the more complex nuances of the management of children with invasive meningococcal disease.

This is a 1-day course presented nationally within the UK to a multidisciplinary audience including Paediatricians, Nurses and General Practitioners.

This is your opportunity to manage this complex disease as a team and reflect on your performance supported and coached by experts in the management of acutely ill children. Our experiences have shown that the most effective use of the day to ensure transference of learning into optimisation of local practice is for a multi-professional team (2 nurses, 2 consultants and 2 trainees) to attend the day.

Using our state of the art simulators, this course aims to provide the following learning objectives:

  1. To understand the different presentations of meningococcal infections
  2. To recognise the initial signs of severity of illness
  3. To manage cases efficiently whilst waiting for PICU transfer
  4. To understand complications during the management in the acute phase

Target audience: Nurses, Consultants, Trainees, General Practitioners

Format: 1 day course
