Course Details

This course is only open to applicable employees of the University Hospital Bristol NHS Trust. This course is free to attend.

This one day course provides nurses with the underpinning knowledge and skills required to care for the intensive care patient. A mixture of lecture based, workshops and simulation sessions provides a very practical course.

Aim

To provide a safe and supportive learning environment, this allows hands on experience assessing and managing the critical care patient

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify pathophysiological factors that can precipitate acute crisis/deterioration of the critical care patient and implement a course of action.
  2. Utilise a range of monitoring equipment, interpreting observations to deliver appropriate holistic care of the critically care patient.
  3. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate continuing care of the critical care patient using an ABCDE approach
  4. Recognise the need to get help and communicate with team members using a SBAR approach
