Course Details

Course description:

The Bristol Advanced Simulation Instructors Masterclass (BASIM) course is applicable to all educators who wish to develop a deeper understanding of how to achieve successful organisational integration of multi-disciplinary simulation based education (SBE) in the domains of Education, Practice Development, Clinical Governance and Research to achieve the ultimate goal of enhanced patient safety and quality of health care delivery.

In addition the course will arm participants with the knowledge and skills to DEVELOP, DESIGN, DELIVER and DEBRIEF simulation-based education across the entire learner expertise gradient. All within a framework of educational quality assurance to ensure the reliable delivery of high quality education that optomises impact.

Although a complete course in its own right, to optomise learning experience, newcomers to simulation are encouraged to attend our ‘Train the Trainers’ course first and gain some experience in delivery of simulation prior to attending the BASIM Course.

This popular and highly evaluated three-day course introduces a basic understanding of Human Factors and Teamwork theory and teaches candidates an innovative practical debriefing model, iTRUST, consisting of a standardised structure of the debrief that allows educator to confirm the performance deficit and choose the most appropriate feedback tool from their “tool belt” of feedback tools including Directive Feedback, Learner Self Assessment and Facilitated Reflection. Thus arming faculty with a “tool belt” of feedback strategies to utilise dynamically based on the nature of the learning need to be addressed, learning style preference and the situation.

Highly skilled thought leaders in the field of simulation will guide candidates through the hands on practical application of the Simulation Delivery Cycle including scenario design, scenario implementation and debriefing.
